Zimmerman Verdict Followed by Nationwide Protests

Dozens of protests took place across the United States after the Zimmerman trial verdict was released.

Protests took place in almost every major city in the US, with more being planned for Sunday or the coming week.

In Oakland, California the protest turned to a riot as a mob began damaging police cars and other vehicles, breaking windows, spray painting, and starting fires.

Oakland police formed a line blocking the rioters path and marched them backwards til they dispersed.

No arrests were made in the incident.

George Zimmerman was found not guilty on charges of second degree murder and manslaughter in the case of his killing Trayvon Martin.

The jury was convinced of the defense's case that the killing was in self defense.

33 Dead in Lac-Megantic, 17 Missing

Thirty-three bodies of victims from last Saturday's train crash and explosion in Lac-Megantic, Quebec have now been recovered.

Seventeen people are still missing, but presumed dead.

Authorities are planning on knocking down two buildings, in the down town area, on Sunday.

They consider the buildings at too great a risk of collapsing on workers who are searching through the rubble for the missing victims.

Several hundred people are still under evacuation, due to the oil spill that was also a result of the accident.

Officials say that the crash was caused because the air brakes on the train failed.

It had been parked nearly eight miles uphill from Lac-Megantic, over night.

Late Friday night, a fire occurred on the train, but it is unclear if that was what caused the brake failure.

The Canadian Transportation Safety Board is continuing the investigation.

Second Night of Riots in Belfast

For the second night in a row riots filled the streets of Belfast, Ireland.

Rioters threw rocks, bottles, and gas bombs at police who used water cannon to try and clear the streets.

One officer took a direct hit from a gas bomb, igniting him, but other officers were able to put out the flames before he was burned too severely.

Four hundred extra police have been brought in to aid the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Syrian Weapons Shipment Destroyed in Airstrike

Israel likely made another air strike into Syria, but won't deny or confirm their involvement.

The air strike struck a shipment of Yakhont anti-ship missiles, in northern Syria, that was being sent to Hezbollah.

If Israel did carry out the strike, as is most likely, then it would be the fourth time this year that they've struck against weapon shipments.

Yakhont missiles are extremely effective against ships, as they travel just above the water at twice the speed of sound.

Israel has repeatedly stated that they will not hesitate to keep advanced weaponry from reaching Hezbollah or Hamas.
