US Deploying THAAD System to Guam

The Pentagon announced that a THAAD missile defense battery would be shipped to Guam as immediately as possible.

A Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery would be used to help defend the island from any incoming missiles.

It is one more bit of evidence how seriously the US is taking North Korea's increasing hostility.

The US currently only has two of the systems available, so only will be deploying one of them.

Each battery costs eight hundred million dollars and plans are not in place to obtain another system, until 2015.

Expectations now are that the US will bump the purchase up, as quickly as possible.

Kia and Hyundai Recall Nearly 2 Million Vehicles

Kia and Hyundai have announced a recall of nearly two million vehicles.

Issues with air bags and brake switches need to be dealt with.

The brake switch recall includes 2007-2011 Kia Optima, Rondo, Sedona, Sorento, Soul, and Sportage; as well as Hyundai Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and Veracruz.

In some cases a faulty switch was not causing brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal was pushed.

Other reports involved the cruise control not turning off, when the brake pedal was stepped on.

2011-2013 Hyundai Elantras are being recalled due to a problem with a bracket coming loose when side air bags were inflated, causing injuries.

Dealers will inspect and replace parts for free, starting in June.

3 Dead From New Strain of Bird Flu in China

Three people have now died from a new strain of bird flu, in China.

Six other people are ill with the H7N9 strain.

Until now, the strain was not thought to be transmittable to humans.

Authorities are worried about the strain as it does not kill birds, which are infected with it.

In fact, the birds infected with the strain have no symptoms at all.

H7N9 does not cause any harm until transmitted to humans, leaving officials trying to figure out a way to more easily detect it.

Malaysian Parliament Dissolved

Prime Minister Razak

Prime Minister Najib Razak dissolved the Malaysian parliament on Wednesday.

This sets up a general election later in the month, on April 27.

Razak's party has controlled parliament for fifty-six years, and this election will be their toughest.

Former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim leads the opposition, which is very hopeful that it won't just have a good showing, but believes it might be able to take the majority for itself.

Taliban Attack on Farah Leaves 53 Dead

Militants attacked Farah, Afghanistan in an attempt to rescue members of the Taliban, kept prisoner there.

At least fifty-three people were killed and over ninety injured, in the Wednesday morning battle.

Most of the casualties were civilians, who had been at the bazar and banks nearby the government buildings.

The attackers were dressed in military gear and blew up an army truck full of explosives, to begin the attack.

They were able to breach several government buildings, before security forces were able to recover and engage them.

Officials reported that at least six of the attackers had been wearing suicide vests.
