$50 Million in Diamonds Stolen From Brussels Airport

Thieves disguised as police made off with fifty million dollars worth of diamonds, on Tuesday.

After cutting a hole through a fence, eight people, in two vehicles made their way into Brussels airport.

Disguised as police and wearing masks they approached a Helvetic Airways plane and forced open the cargo hold.

They took with them one hundred and twenty packages of uncut diamonds.

Antwerp World Diamond Centre, who the diamonds belonged to, estimated the loss at about fifty million dollars.

However, nearly nine times that much was aboard the plane.

Police say that clearly the thieves knew what they were after, as the whole operation took only minutes.

It is unclear why the thieves did not take all the diamonds.

Military Plane Crashes in Yemeni Residential Neighborhood

A fighter plane crashed in a residential part of Sanaa, Yemen, on Tuesday.

Nine people were killed and eleven more were injured when the plane came down.

Two houses were destroyed and several others damaged.

The plane had been on a training mission and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Authorities said that the pilot ejected from the plane.

North Korea Threatens South Korea and The US at The UN

North Korea shocked the UN's Conference on Disarmament when they openly threatened the South, on Tuesday.

Jon Yong Ryong, a diplomat for the North, stated that, "South Korea's erratic behavior would only herald its final destruction".

His statement brought outrage and condemnation from the other nations present.

He also promised that the North will react strongly to the US, if it continued it's path of hostility.

The unveiled threats brought about suggestions that the North's presence in the UN be limited.

General Strike in Guinea Over Election Fixing Accusations

A nation wide strike began in Guinea, on Tuesday.

Some neighborhoods saw clashes with police, and arrests were made.

The strike was called for by opposition groups who say that the upcoming elections are already been fixed.

They accuse the government of fixing the date of the vote to make it difficult for people to vote as well as selectively editing who can vote in the election.

May 12's vote would be the first parliamentary election in over a decade.

Jbeli Resigns as Tunisian Prime Minister

Hamadi Jbeli has resigned his position as Tunisia's Prime Minister.

He had threatened to do so, if the political parties could not come to an agreement on a new government.

Political turmoil has returned to the country, since the assassination of Chokri Belaid.

Tens of thousand of people marched in protests against the government, followed by thousands of supporters marching.

Opposition parties have demanded that Ennahda, the leading Islamic party, give up two ministers spots.

For now, the country's government has ground to a standstill.

Turkey Targets Leftists Connected to Bombing of US Embassy

Turkish police conducted raids across the country, on Tuesday.

Warrants were issued for one hundred and sixty-seven people in twenty-eight provinces.

Most of those targeted were members of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, which was responsible for the attack on the US Embassy, on February 1.

The group had already been designated a terrorist organization, by both the US and Turkey, and the bombing has just given Turkey official reason to go after them.

Others that were arrested were leaders and members of KESK, a leftist trade union group, which Turkey is saying has ties with terrorist organization.

Seventeen members of the Revolutionary Civil Servant Movement were also among those arrested.

Armenia's Sargsyan Wins Reelection Under Cloud of Voting Violations

Serzh Sargsyan won reelection in Armenia, on Monday.

His reelection will give him a second five year term.

With fifty-eight percent of the vote he handily won the election, as his nearest competitor only had thirty-two percent.

However, charges of voting violations had begun nearly as soon as the polls had opened.

Monday finished with more than seventy separate charges of violations, including accusations that votes for opposition parties were thrown out.

Even if true, it is unclear if all of the violations combined would be enough to take the office from Sargsyan.

Florida Recycling Plant Catches Fire

Fire broke out in a heap of scrap metal at OneSteel Recycling, in Tampa, Florida, early Monday morning.

A dozen fire companies were called to battle the blaze.

Firefighters managed to keep it from spreading, but say that it won't be out for hours, yet.

Hazmat crews are also on the scene, due to the possible content of what is burning, but health officials say that there is no threat to anyone's health and that it is merely a precaution.

Smoke from the fire spread as far as St. Petersburg, fifteen miles away.

Thirteen Injured at South African Mine

Two unions have begun fighting over which of them shall control Anglo Platinum's in Rustenburg, South Africa.

In attempts to disperse crowds, security workers fired rubber bullets at them.

Thirteen people were injured and required hospitalization after the shooting, on Monday.

Police are now involved and working to keep the two unions apart.

Violence around mines killed over fifty people, in 2012.

The country is trying to avoid a repeat of that.

Venezuelans Celebrate Chavez's Return

Hundreds of Venezuelans took to the streets to celebrate the return of Hugo Chavez.

His Twitter account announced that he had returned from Cuba, Monday morning.

He is still hospitalized, as he recovers from four surgeries to try and beat cancer.

Chavez had been absent for ten weeks, during which time his further rule has been questioned.

On January 10, he was scheduled to be inaugurated for his fourth term, but was unable to make it.

In a bit of controversy, the Supreme Court decided that the inauguration could be postponed.
