Flooding Continues in Europe

Floods continue throughout central Europe.

More levees broke on Monday, forcing even more evacuations.

Twenty-two deaths have been reported, because of the flooding.

Thousands have been displaced as record water levels buried neighborhoods and villages.

The rain has stopped in most areas, and in some places water levels are finally decreasing.

However, it is not over yet as the water still has to get down stream.

Teacher Sentenced to 11 Years in Jail Over Tweet

The Emir

A thirty-seven year old teacher, Huda al-Ajmi, has been sentenced to eleven years in jail, in Kuwait.

Her crime was using her cell phone to tweet an "insult" about the emir.

Any derogatory remarks about Sheikh Sabah al-Sabah are considered as being illegal.

The Kuwaiti constitution lists the emir as "infallible".

Kuwait has a history of cracking down on freedom of speech, especially when it comes to political matters.

Several people a year are arrested for making comments that are considered illegal, in the country.

Explosions Kill 32 in Iraq

Thirty-two people were killed in six bombings, in three Iraqi cities, on Monday.

Eleven were killed when two car bombs struck the city of Mosul.

Two car bombs and a suicide bomber struck a market in Jadidat al-Shatt, killing thirteen and wounding more than fifty.

Eight people died when another market was hit by a car bomb, in Taji.

Iraqi police said they were able to safely defuse two bombs in Kirkuk.

Al Qaeda and other Sunni groups have been increasing their terror attacks, over the last few months.

Several thousand have been killed since April.

Worries continue to grow that Iraq will soon see another civil war.

Suicide Bombers Die Attempting Attack on Kabul Airport

Taliban forces attempted an attack on the Kabul International Airport, on Monday.

Seven suicide bombers were part of the attack, but security forces were able to keep five of them from blowing themselves up.

All seven bombers died, while two civilian bystanders were injured.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions, but officials said there was no damage.

Several flights had to be diverted to another airport, due to the fighting.

40 Dead in Sri Lankan Monsoon

Forty people have been killed by torrential rain and roaring winds as Sri Lanka is buffeted by a monsoon.

Dozens more are missing, many of them fisherman who went out to sea before the storm struck, on Saturday.

The Sri Lankan military, especially the navy, have been busy with rescue operations.

Over a hundred homes have been destroyed, while an estimated twenty-five hundred more have been damaged.

Rains and winds are expected to continue through Wednesday.

Iran Opens First Space Monitoring Center

Iran inaugurated it's new space monitoring center, on Sunday.

The Imam Jafar Sadiq Space Monitoring Center is Iran's first such center.

It will be responsible for monitoring all traffic in space, whether it be satellites, asteroids, or the unknown.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi attended the ceremony.

Vahidi said that monitoring space traffic was an important part of Iranian national security, as there are many dangers to be found in space.

He went on to say that Iran will consider selling it's date to other countries.

Lebanese Military Blocks Beirut Streets After Hezbollah Kills Protester

Tanks and armored personnel carriers took to the streets of Beirut, on Sunday.

The Lebanese city had seen protests start the day.

Sunnis, Shiites, and Christians took to the streets in either protest or support of Hezbollah's increased involvement in the Syrian civil war.

A group of Shiites began a protest in front of the Iranian embassy and were met by Hezbollah members, who opened fire on the protesters.

One protester was killed and several more were injured.

Lebanon responded by sending the military out to enforce peace on the streets.

Intersections were blocked with military vehicles and barbed wire check points.

The country fears that Hezbollah's involvement in Syria's war, will involve Lebanon in it as well.

It may well be too late for Lebanon to avoid that fate.

4 Hot Air Balloons Crash in Colorado

Four hot air balloons crashed in Colorado, on Saturday, in four separate incidents.

Arvada, Boulder County, Louisville, and Rocky Flats each had one of the crashes.

One of the people aboard the Arvada balloon was injured.

The balloon companies denied that any of the incidents were crashes.

They said that winds abruptly increased, causing emergency landings to be necessary.

Swedish Princess Madeleine Marries

Princess Madeleine of Sweden married American financier Christopher O'Neill, on Saturday.

The wedding took place in the Royal Chapel in Stockholm, and their vows were followed by a twenty-one cannon salute.

After the ceremony, they were taken by the Parade Barouche, the official wedding carriage of Sweden, to a boat which took them to Drottningholm Palace, for their reception.

Their nearly five hundred guests included royalty and financiers from around the world.

Madeleine is the youngest of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's children, and is fourth in line to the throne.

She lives in New York City where she works for the World Childhood Foundation, founded by her mother.

25 Killed in Benghazi Clashes

At least twenty-five people were killed and more than fifty injured in clashes that erupted in Benghazi, Libya, on Saturday.

Protesters demanding that all militias lay down their arms attacked a base belonging to the Libya Shield brigade.

Fighting, between the two groups, lasted for hours.

The Libya Shield brigade is allied with the Libyan government, but the people of Benghazi do not want militias present, no matter who they are allied with.
