US Army: Specialist Caryn E. Nouv

Specialist Caryn E. Nouv, twenty-nine of Newport News, Virginia, died on July 27.

She and another killed when their was struck by an improvised explosive device, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan.

It was her first tour of combat.

Nouv was assigned to the 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Police Seeking Man Who Threatened to Destroy Churches

Fort Collins, Colorado police are warning churches and temples to be wary.

A man, who is at large, has made several threats against churches, saying that they should be destroyed.

According to police, he describes himself as an Islamist Jihadist.

He is described as white, in his early thirties, six foot one, one hundred and eighty-five pounds, with medium length brown hair, green eyes, and a full beard.

When last seen, he was wearing a Tshirt around his head, face coverings, and dark glasses to hide his appearance.

Police did no release a name or photo of the man.

They are actively looking for him, due to the threats he has made.

Flooding in North Carolina Kills 2

Flooding in North Carolina claimed the lives of two people, Saturday evening.

Both of them were trying to swim, but were carried away by the swift waters.

It is also responsible for damaging more than one hundred and thirty homes, dozens of businesses, and seven highways.

Many rivers and creeks are running two feet higher than normal, causing them to flood neighboring areas.

Several towns have multiple feet of water covering everything.

5 Killed as Helicopter Crashes in Pennsylvania

Five people were killed when a helicopter crashed in Pennsylvania, late Saturday night.

About 22:30 EDT, the pilot alerted a nearby air traffic control tower that he was struggling to maintain altitude.

Soon after that the helicopter disappeared from the radar.

The FAA and NTSB are both investigating the crash.

3 Million Gather to Hear Pope Francis

An estimated three million people swarmed Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

They came to see Pope Francis give a mass.

Francis went through the crowds, touching the masses, kissing babies, sharing in food and drink, before making his speech.

During it he told those gathered that they had been called by God to be missionaries to their neighbors.

$53 Million in Jewels Stolen From Cannes Hotel

A man armed with a gun robbed The Carlton hotel in Cannes, France on Sunday.

He made off with a briefcase filled with diamonds and other jewels.

Escaping security, he made it to the street, where he disappeared in the crowded sidewalk.

The case's contents are worth about fifty-three million dollars.

Police throughout France are looking for the thief.

Bus Crash in Italy Kills 36

Thirty-six people are dead after a bus crash in southern Italy.

A bus with forty-eight people aboard fell fifty feet off a road.

Eleven people were taken to the hospital, with serious injuries.

Rescue operations were still underway, as emergency crews search for the last passenger.

Officials are trying to determine what caused the bus to leave the road and fall down the cliff.

Syrian Troops Continue Recapture of Homs

Syrian forces increased their gains in Homs, continuing their weekend offensive.

On Saturday, government forces began a heavy attack on the Khalidiya neighborhood.

The majority of Homs has been held by rebel forces, for over a year, and it had become a symbol of their rebellion.

Over the past few months, government troops have been boosted by international forces, some official, some not.

This has allowed the government to stop rebel advances and begin the recapture of some areas.

30,000 Bees Attack Texas Couple, Kill Horses and Hens

Thirty thousand bees attacked a Texas couple in Pantego.

The woman was out exercising one of her Shetland ponies when the swarm appeared.

She ran from them, into the pool, but was stung every time she came up for air.

Eventually she ran for the house, where her boyfriend opened the door for her.

He received about fifty stings, while she received over two hundred, their dog was also stung multiple times.

Both of her ponies and three hens were not so lucky, dying from the amount of stings they took.

Firefighters used special gear and foam to clear the bees out.

The bees will be tested to see if they had become Africanized, as seems likely.

Florida Shooting Leaves 7 Dead

Seven people were killed during a shooting spree in Hialeah, Florida, late Friday night.

It began when forty-two year old Pedro Vargas tried to light his apartment on fire.

The building managers rushed to the sight of the smoke only to have Vargas shoot both of them down.

Vargas then fired as many as twenty rounds from off of his balcony into the street, killing one man, and forcing responding emergency personnel to take cover.

He then went to the third floor, kicked open an apartment door, and killed all three of the occupants.

Continuing to to evade police, he ran through the building, firing off random rounds.

On the fifth floor he took two hostages and barricaded himself in their apartment.

Police attempted to negotiate with him, but around 02:00 EDT talks fell apart, a SWAT team breached the premises, and was forced to kill Vargas.

During the incident Hialeah police were joined by over one hundred officers from other jurisdictions.
