Switzerland Votes to Keep Military Draft

Seventy-three percent of Swiss voters said no to removing the military draft, on Sunday.

All of the countries twenty-three canons voted to keep the draft.

Swiss law requires all men from eighteen to thirty-four to take part in the military.

After five months of basic training they are required to serve for nineteen days every year.

The draft keeps Switzerland's military at one hundred and fifty thousand strong.

Many Swiss believe that the draft is what holds their nation together, despite it's four official languages.

German Elections See Merkel and The CDU Victorious

Germans went to the polls on Sunday and mostly voted to keep the current leaders in control.

Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union came out very strong, taking forty-two percent of the votes, and giving Merkel her third term as Chancellor.

Expectations are that they will form a coalition with the Social Democrats, the next biggest pro Euro party, who took twenty-six perecent.

However the Alternative for Germany party, which has an anti Euro stance, also gained some ground.

They knocked Merkel's current allies, the Free Democratic Party, out of the Bundestag, but failed to gain a place in Parliament for themselves, with only four percent of the votes.

This marks the first time since the end of World War II that the FDP will not be present in the national government.

68 Dead in Westgate Mall Shooting in Nairobi

A hostage situation is still ongoing at the Westgate mall, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Sixty-eight people have died as a result of the terrorist attack, carried out by Al Shabaab militants, on Saturday.

Kenyan military forces continued to converge on the mall, on Sunday.

They say they now have the remaining militants surrounded in a grocery store, and that they will be ending the situation as soon as possible.

It is unclear how many hostages they have, but officials say that they have been able to rescue most of them.

The attack has been felt internationally, as the dead come from many nations.

Citizens from Australia, Canada, China, France, Ghana, India, the Netherlands, and the UK are among the victims.

An American was among the wounded, but none were killed.

2 US Navy Members Missing After Helicopter Crashes in The Red Sea

A US Navy MH-60S Knighthawk crashed into the Red Sea, on Sunday.

Three of the five crew members were rescued from the sea and are in stable condition.

Neither of the other two have been found and are listed as missing.

Airplanes, helicopters, and six ships searched through the rest of Sunday and into Monday, looking for the missing two crew members.

The helicopter was part of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6.

IDF Soldier Killed by Sniper in Hebron

A soldier of the Israeli Defense Forces was shot and killed, on Sunday.

He was on patrol in Hebron when he was shot in the neck by a sniper.

By the time he reached the hospital he had died from his wound.

The IDF identified the slain soldier as Sergeant Gabriel Kobi, 20, from Tirat HaCarmel.

The Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, a Palestinian terrorist group, claimed responsibility for his murder.

Mortar Round Strikes Russia's Embassy in Damascus

A mortar round struck the Russian embassy in Damascus, Syria, on Sunday.

Three workers at the embassy were injured by shrapnel from the blast.

None of their injuries were considered life threatening.

This was the second time in September that a mortar round has struck the embassy.

In the first incident no one was injured.

Another Deadly Day in Iraq Leaves 23 Dead

Twenty-three people were killed in Iraqi violence, on Sunday.

In Adhamiya, gunmen opened fire on a store killing four people.

Two police officers were killed and two wounded when a roadside bomb struck their convoy, in Eiad.

For the second day in a row a suicide bomber targeted a funeral. Fifteen people were killed and thirty-five wounded, in Dora, when the suicide bomber blew himself up.

In Kirkuk, fifty-one people were injured when a car bomb exploded near the ministry of education.

Outside Kirkuk, five policemen were wounded in a suicide attack on their patrol.

Gunmen in Mashtil attacked a store, killing two people there.

No one has claimed responsibility for any of the attacks,

At Least 75 Dead in Suicide Bombing at Church in Pakistan

At least seventy-five people have been killed after a dual suicide blast at All Saints Church of Pakistan, in Peshawar.

More than one hundred were injured in the attack, which took place as worshipers were leaving Sunday morning services.

The attack was followed by mass protests of Christians in multiple cities, throughout the country.

They chanted and waved signs demanding peace, security, and an end to terrorism.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Usagi Injures 12 in Taiwan, Moves on to China

Typhoon Usagi has finished with Taiwan, leaving twelve injured.

It struck with sustained winds near one hundred and thirty miles per hour and dropped as much as twenty-nine inches of rain on the island.

Hong Kong dealt with the storm as well, but took a lesser blow, with no injuries reported.

Usagi made landfall in China, on Sunday evening.

Railways across Guangdong province have been shut down, while the storm lashes the region.

Power lines have been knocked out in several provinces, with crews rushing to restore electricity to homes and businesses.

Over one hundred flights, in central Asia, have been disrupted by the typhoon.

The storm will continue to move inland, gradually losing strength.

US Army: Sergeant William D. Brown III

Sergeant William D. Brown III, forty-four of Franklin, North Carolina, died on September 19.

He was killed in Laghman province, Afghanistan.

Brown was assigned to the 94th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Among his completed courses were: Brigade Combat Team Trauma Course, Warrior Leadership Course, Combat Lifesavers Course.

His decorations include: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Medal, NATO Medal.
