2 Killed in Violent Protests in Sudan

More than ten thousand people protested in Sudanese cities, on Friday.

Protests have been going since last week, when the government announced substantial increases in gas prices.

Friday's protests were by far the largest and the most violent.

Two people were killed and over three hundred injured, including one hundred and eleven policemen.

Police used tear gas to try and force crowds, who were lighting fires in the streets and throwing objects at police, to disperse.

By Friday evening, military forces lined the streets of Khartoum and were deploying in other cities.

Protesters Clash With Police in Israel

Muslim protesters clashed with Israeli police on Friday.

The protesters were trying to block Jewish visits to the al-Aqsa mosque compound, a site which is holy for both religions.

Police had been there to protect the visitors, but were themselves attacked by the protesters.

Injuries occurred on both sides, as protesters threw bricks, rocks, and other objects at the police and visitors, while the police responded with stun grenades and tear gas.

Officials said that twelve arrests were made.

Death Toll From Pakistan Quake Over 500

The death toll from Tuesday's quake, in Pakistan, has climbed to five hundred and fifteen, with the number expected to continue rising.

Thousands of buildings were destroyed in the 7.7 quake, trapping unknown hundreds of people.

Crews are digging through debris in hopes of finding survivors and with the plan to recover victims.

Pakistan has sent over a thousand troops to aid in rescue efforts.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by rebel activity in the region, as rebels have taken shots at three helicopters working to bring aid.

The quake was not only destructive, it also created a new island off the coast.

Bus Bombing in Pakistan Kills 19

Nineteen people were killed in a bus bombing in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Another forty-four were injured in Friday afternoon's attack.

Officials say that the bomb was planted in the back of the bus and detonated with a remote.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing, however suspicion has fallen on the Taliban.

India and Pakistan Shoot Across the Border For 20th Time in September

Once again Indian and Pakistani soldiers fired across the border at each other, on Friday afternoon.

The exchange of firing lasted late into the night.

Both sides accuse each other of violating the cease fire, saying that they only responded.

Friday's shooting left no reports of injuries or casualties, unlike many previous times.

This marks the twentieth time in September that the two countries have taken shots at each other.

It also is the one hundred and twenty-second time this year.

Building Collapse Kills 13 in India

Thirteen people were killed, Friday morning, when a building collapsed in Mumbai, India.

Another twenty-six were injured in the collapse of the five story apartment building.

Forty-four people have been rescued from the rubble, while around forty are still missing.

Rescue workers continue to search through the remains of the building, hoping to find more survivors.

The building was currently undergoing repairs to improve structural integrity.

It failed an inspection in April.

US Army: Staff Sergeant Thomas A. Baysore Jr.

Staff Sergeant Thomas A. Baysore Jr., thirty-one of Milton, Pennsylvania, died on September 26.

He was killed in Paktya province, Afghanistan, during combat with enemy forces.

It was his third deployment to Afghanistan, following one in Iraq.

Baysore was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Cambell, Kentucky.

US Navy: Lieutenant Commander Landon L. Jones

Lieutenant Commander Landon L. Jones, thirty-five of Lompoc, California, died on September 22.

He and another member of the Navy were killed when their MH-60S Knighthawk crashed into the Red Sea.

Jones was assigned to the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Six out of Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California.

US Navy: Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan S. Gibson

Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan S. Gibson, thirty-two of Aurora, Oregon, died on September 22.

He and another member of the Navy were killed when their MH-60S Knighthawk crashed into the Red Sea.

Gibson was assigned to the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Six out of Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California.

Arrests Made in Deadly 2011 Listeria Outbreak

Arrests were made, on Thursday, in the case of the 2011 listeria outbreak.

Thirty-three people died as a result of eating tainted cantaloupe.

Over the past two years the CDC gathered enough evidence to show that the owners of a Colorado farm were negligent in their cleaning of the cantaloupe and the environment that the cantaloupes were in.

With the negligence shown, the two owners of the now bankrupt Jensen Farms have been arrested.

Eric and Ryan Jensen are being charged with the misdemeanor offense of introducing adulterated food into interstate commerce.
