Taliban Disguised as ISAF Soldiers Attack Secure Zone

Eight gunmen, dressed as members of the ISAF, attacked the secure zone of Kabul, on Tuesday.

Their vehicles were also made to look as if they belonged to the ISAF.

One of the vehicles was able to make it past a checkpoint, but the second was unable to and a firefight broke out.

All eight of the militants were killed, as were three members of the Afghan security forces.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

19 Killed in Indian Rescue Helicopter Crash

Nineteen people were killed when the helicopter they were in crashed near Gaurikund, India.

Only eight bodies have been found, but officials do not see survival of the crash as likely.

Most of those aboard were military.

The Mi-17 crashed during it's third mission of the day.

It was part of rescue operations in the flood ridden state of Uttarakhand.

An investigation is under way, to determine the cause of the crash, but bad weather is the likely cause.

US Army: Specialist Javier Sanchez Jr.

Specialist Javier Sanchez Jr., twenty-eight of Greenfield, California, died on June 23.

He was killed when the vehicle he was in was struck by an improvised explosive device.

Sanchez was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, New York.

Among his completed courses were: Combat Life Savers Course and Warrior Leader Course.

His decorations include: Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge.

2nd Colorado Democrat to Face Recall

There are now enough signatures for a second Democrat state senator to be recalled in Colorado.

The recall effort against senator Angela Giron received more than the necessary amount of signatures, according to the office of the secretary of state.

Giron accused the recall as being racially motivated, which is denied by those organizing against her.


State senator John Morse is also facing recall, as enough signatures were gained last week.

Both voted for restrictive gun laws, that many see as unconstitutional.

Other senators who voted for the gun laws are also facing recall movements.

Recall elections could happen this September.

Lime Gulch Fire Fully Contained

The Lime Gulch Fire is now fully contained.

It began on Tuesday and quickly spread to five hundred acres, by Wednesday.

The rapid growth forced the evacuation of Buffalo Park, Colorado.

However, the fire never really grew any further and firefighters now have it completely contained.

Evacuations have now been rescinded, though some areas are still on standby.

Some East Peak Fire Evacuations Lifted

Authorities, in Colorado, have begun to lift some of the mandatory evacuations near the East Peak Fire.

Most of the lifted evacuations remain under standby.

Some of the roads in the area will now also be reopened.

The fire, which began on Wednesday, has burnt thirteen thousand acres.

Thirteen buildings, including nine houses, have been lost to it.

Firefighters, aided by aircraft, have fought it to fifteen percent containment.

West Fork Complex Fire Over 76,000 Acres

The West Fork Complex Fire is considered to be more than seventy-six thousand acres.

It is a combination of the Papoose, Windy Pass, and West Fork Fires.

Nearly nine hundred firefighters and nineteen aircraft are battling the blaze.

Winds have been pushing it along for the last few days.

They are expected to calm on Tuesday, but temperatures will be going up at the same time.

The entire town of South Fork, Colorado remains evacuated due to the threat posed, as well as several camp grounds.

Worries are that Creede and other towns may also have to be evacuated.

So far there is no containment at all.

Texas Houses Passes 20 Week Abortion Ban

With a vote of ninety-five to thirty-four, the Texas house of representatives passed a bill restricting abortions.

Included in the bill is a ban on abortions taking place twenty weeks after conception.

Twelve other states have passed laws placing a ban on abortions then or even earlier.

The bill also requires higher standards of care at abortion clinics.

Planned Parenthood warned that the new standards would reduce them from having forty-two abortion clinics in Texas, down to only five.

It now heads to the senate, where it had previously passed without out the twenty week ban.

If it passes the senate, Governor Perry is expected to sign it.

18 Romanians Killed in Montenegro Bus Crash

Rescuers work to free the injured

Eighteen Romanians were killed and twenty-nine injured when their bus crashed in Montenegro.

The bust went off of a bridge and plummeted one hundred and thirty feet to the bottom of the ravine.

Thirteen died at the scene, while the other five died of their injuries at the hospital.

Romania is sending medially equipped aircraft to transport the injured home.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash, at this point it is not known why the driver lost control.

Power in Qatar to Change Hands

Crown Prince Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani

Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani will be stepping down from his throne, in Qatar.

His son, Crown Prince Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, will be taking his place in ruling the country.

Tuesday morning, Sheikh Hamad will announce the change to the nation, on TV.

With the change in rule, cabinet changes are expected.

However, it is doubtful that the new ruler will be too different from his father.

The Sheikh brought major reforms to the country, helping keep it from seeing any of the violent revolts other countries have recently seen.
