3,000 L. L. Bean Step Stools Recalled

L. L. Bean has announced a recall for three thousand of their step stools.

Painted Cottage Step Stool's of any color are covered under the recall.

The stools are not balanced correctly and can tip over while being used.

They were sold between December 2012 and June 2013.

So far six injuries have been reported due to the issue. 

Jefferson County Sheriff Warning of Latest Phone Scam

Residents in Jefferson County, Colorado are being warned to be wary of the latest phone scam.

A man calling himself "Major Tom Wilson" of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is calling people and saying that a warrant is out for their arrest because they missed jury duty.

According to the man, they can avoid jail time if they buy a five hundred dollar Green Dot MoneyPak card and then give him the security code numbers.

Several people have been called by the scammer, with at least one person falling for it.

Anyone who has had a similar experience, and has not reported it, is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 303-271-0211.

Source of London's Car Melting Beam Found

London officials have found the cause of cars melting.

It was being caused by the glare from 20 Fenchurch Street, or the Walkie Talkie building as it is commonly known.

According to officials, the glare is so intense that anything kept in it's reflection was being damaged.

Several cars that had been parked in the area had been severely damaged as they were melted by the intensity.

The phenomenon should only last a couple weeks, as the sun's current angle in the sky is causing it to happen.

Once the sun is no longer at that elevation the intensity of the glare will be diminished to safe levels.

Til then, the city has closed off the part of town that was being hit by the intense beams of heat.

The owners of the building are also working on finding ways to keep the incident from being repeated.

One option is to place a new coating on the building, one that wouldn't cut down on the inside's view, but would absorb more of the glare.

Miners in South Africa Strike Again

Miners in South Africa are once again on strike.

This latest strike was called after the government and the National Union of Mineworkers failed to come to an agreement.

Nearly seventy percent of miners are represented by NUM, who is demanding wage increases.

Mine companies have offered increases as high as six and a half percent, but that has been rejected by NUM.

Last year strikes led to deadly violence between police and private security forces and the striking miners.

50 Killed in 8 Bombings in Baghdad

Over fifty people were killed in Baghdad, on Tuesday.

Eight car bombs struck Shiite areas of the city, in an apparently orchestrated attack.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, however officials are blaming Al Qaeda.

Over four thousand people have been killed in Iraq, since April.

Firefighters Begin to Leave as Containment on the Rim Fire Reaches 60%

Firefighters have now battled the Rim Fire to sixty percent containment, in California.

The fire has burnt over two hundred and twenty-nine thousand acres, including forty-nine thousand in Yosemite National Park.

Over five thousand firefighters had been battling the blaze, but their numbers have now been lowered to forty-six hundred.

One hundred and eleven buildings, including thirty-one homes, have been lost to the flames.

Forty-five hundred homes and a thousand other buildings lie with a mandatory evacuation area, that is threatened by the blaze.

Hopes are that continued containment will allow for some evacuations to be lifted soon.

Winds continue to drown nearby towns in smoke, making breathing difficult.

However, the winds changed directions, blowing the fire back on itself, that combined with lower temperatures and higher humidity aided in battling the fire.

Yosemite National Park has remained opened, the main part of the park lies more than twenty miles away and authorities say that it is not in any danger.

3 Injured in Maryland Plane Crash

Three people were injured when their plane crashed near Bowie, Maryland.

Monday afternoon's crash took place just off of Highway 50.

Two of the three were critically injured in the accident.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

Traffic on Highway 50 was backed up for hours, due to the incident.

Taliban Attacks US Base in Afghanistan

Heavily armed militants attack a US and NATO base in eastern Afghanistan, on Monday.

The attack lasted for more than three hours, before all of the militants were killed or committed suicide.

No NATO or US troops were injured during the battle.

A dozen supply trucks were burnt and destroyed.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault.

US Army: Staff Sergeant Joshua J. Bowden

Staff Sergeant Joshua J. Bowden, twenty-eight of Villa Rica, Georgia, died on August 31.

He was killed in combat in Ghazni province Afghanistan.

It was his second deployment to Afghanistan.

Bowden was assigned to the 242 Ordnance Battalion, 71st Ordnance Group out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

His decorations include: Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Valor device, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachute Badge, Air Assault Badge, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge.

Ford Recalling 370,000 Vehicles in US and Canada

Ford has announced a recall of three hundred and seventy thousand vehicles in the US and Canada.

The vehicles may see corrosion in the steering shaft, which could lead to a loss of ability to steer.

No injured or accidents have been reported, due to the possible issue.

2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Cars, and Mercury Grand Marquis are covered by the recall.

Free inspections will take place at dealerships, any necessary replacements will also be done free of charge.
