Hickenlooper Suggests Colorado Homeowners Pay Fire Danger Fees

On Monday, Governor Hickenlooper suggested that certain Coloradans should pay more for where they live.

He said that residents who live in high fire danger areas should share some of the financial responsibility of living in dangerous areas.

Hickenlooper made his statement after a group he convened made the suggestion.

The group also suggested that statewide construction codes be raised to make buildings more fire proof.

Colorado's governor had formed the group in January.

5 Killed in Colorado Rock Slide

Five people were killed by a rock slide in Colorado, on Monday morning.

The slide occurred near the Agnes Vaille Falls trail head, on Mount Princeton, in Chaffee County.

A thirteen year old female was airlifted after being rescued from the slide, but the rest of her group was not so lucky.

Their bodies were found Monday afternoon.

Authorities are calling the slide "very large" and say that there are many large boulders amongst the fall.

It is unclear what caused the slide to occur.

Recovery operations are set to resume on Tuesday.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims.

3 Killed in California Airplane Crash

Three people were killed when a plane crashed at Santa Monica Airport, in California, Sunday evening.

Witnesses say that one of the plane's tires blew as it touched down, causing the plane to lose control.

The plane then swerved into a hangar, where it exploded.

It took firefighters a couple hours to get the fire out and then it took hours more for crews to get through the wreckage of the hangar to the plane itself.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a full investigation.

Train Crash in Chicago Injures 33

Thirty-three people were injured when two trains collided in Chicago, on Monday morning.

None of the injuries were serious and everyone was released from the hospital by Monday evening.

Authorities say that a parked train, which was undergoing repairs, managed to slip from it's brakes.

It then went through two switches, which should have stopped it, before striking the other train at about twenty miles per hour.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a full investigation of the incident.

Al Qaeda Attacks Military Base in Yemen

Al Qaeda militants stormed a military compound in Mukalla, Yemen, on Monday.

They attacked the base with a car bomb to the gate, followed by two trucks full of fighters.

The fighters stormed the headquarters, seized hostages, and barricaded themselves inside the building.

A firefight has been going on since the incident began, between the militants, and soldiers who have the complex surrounded.

Four Yemeni soldiers have been killed and twenty wounded during the fighting.

55 Killed in a Score of Explosions in Baghdad

A series of at least twenty explosions tore through Baghdad's Shiite neighborhoods, on Monday.

At least fifty-five people were killed and more than one hundred injured.

Most of the explosions happened within minutes of each other, suggesting heavy coordination.

The majority were car bombs in busy streets, but markets and other areas were also targeted.

No one claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Iraqi government is blaming Al Qaeda.

Search Continues for 74 Missing Sailors off China

The search continues for seventy-four sailors missing in the South China Sea.

Three fishing boats sank, Sunday afternoon, off the coast of China.

Eighty-eight sailors were aboard the three vessels.

Fourteen sailors were rescued on Monday.

Three helicopters and seven naval ships are conducting the search operations.

Austria's Elections Show Shift Away From Grand Coalition

Austrians hit the polls on Sunday to vote in the parliamentary elections.

Both the Social Democrats and the Austrian People's Party both showed their weakest takes since the return of democracy in 1945.

They will now, more than ever, need the grand coalition they have with each other.

Combined they now have ninety-nine of the one hundred and eighty-three seats, a slight majority.

All four of the other parties gained seats, showing unexpected strength.

The biggest surprise was NEOS, which in their first election took nine seats.

Analysts believe that the results show a dissatisfaction with the grand coalition's governing, not just growing like for the other parties.

49 Killed in Iraq's Sunday Violence

Forty-nine people were killed in bombings and shootings in Iraq, on Sunday.

A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a Shiite mosque. It happened during a funeral in al-Musayyib, killing twenty-five and injuring forty.

In Baqouba, a Sunni mosque was bombed killing five and wounding seventeen. Gunmen attacked a Sahwa checkpoint leaving one dead and three injured.

Gunmen in Dora assassinated an Electric Ministry employee.

Five people were killed and fourteen were wounded by a car bombing in Hussainya's market.

In Idrib, six soldiers were killed and thirty people were wounded in a dual blast. A suicide bomber exploded his vehicle at a military checkpoint. As rescuers gathered, a second bomber, in an ambulance, set his charges off as he reached the scene. Gunmen then attacked the scene, beginning a fire fight with security officials that left three militants dead.

Violence in the country continues to increase as both Sunnis and Shiites attack each other.

The Syrian civil war has only encouraged the centuries old hostilities between the two groups.

Car Bomb Kills 41 in Pakistan

Forty-one people were killed when a car bomb tore through the Qissa Khawani Bazaar, in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Sunday's explosion left more than one hundred people injured.

Dozens of shops were damaged or destroyed in the centuries old market.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack and the Taliban has denied involvement.

It is the third major bombing that Peshawar has seen over the last week.
