As the state can not yet equalize the home environment, they must force all children to do all their work, at school, where teachers can ensure no one has better opportunities than anyone else.

As someone who was mostly homeschooled, I've always been annoyed that a school has custody of a child for about 7 hours and then sends them home with, depending on their age, 1-5 hours of more work. I could get all of my school done in 4-6 hours most days. Ultimately it seems that parents are homeschooling kids during homework hours or the kids are not as likely to learn what they're supposed to. And somewhere in there we're wasting a lot of time. All for a ban on most homework - unless all the work is done at home. =)
