Militants attacked Farah, Afghanistan in an attempt to rescue members of the Taliban, kept prisoner there.
At least fifty-three people were killed and over ninety injured, in the Wednesday morning battle.
Most of the casualties were civilians, who had been at the bazar and banks nearby the government buildings.
The attackers were dressed in military gear and blew up an army truck full of explosives, to begin the attack.
They were able to breach several government buildings, before security forces were able to recover and engage them.
Officials reported that at least six of the attackers had been wearing suicide vests.
