Longmont Officer Fired Upon, Shooter in Critical Condition

Early Wednesday morning, a Longmont, Colorado police officer pulled a car over for not driving with it's headlights on.

As the other vehicle came to a stop, in a parking lot, the driver got out and opened fire on the officer's car.

The officer managed to dive into the back of his car and avoid being struck by the bullets.

When the shooter's AR15 ran out of rounds, the officer returned fire, wounding the man.

Twenty-eight year old Jonathon Shank is in the hospital, in critical condition.

At this time, no motive is known.

Longmont and Boulder police are combining efforts in the investigation.
