Pakistan Considering Treason Charges Against Musharraf

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday that the Pakistani government agrees with the supreme court's decision that Pervez Musharraf committed treason.

While running the country, Musharraf declared a state of emergency and suspended the constitution, in 2007.

The Supreme Court can't try him for treason, only the federal government can do so.

At this point, the government has not pressed charges, but they are considering doing so.

They are currently weighing the political risks of doing so, especially deciding if the military will take offense to their former head being tried for treason.
