In some towns and cities, protest turned to riot, as mobs began breaking windows, smashing cars, and lighting street fires.
Police responded with tear gas, to clear the streets.
Labor unions have called for a general strike, throughout the country, on Friday.
Brahmi, one of the leading members of the opposition, was extremely popular with the people.
Many believe that the Islamist Ennahda party, which controls most of the government, was behind the killing.
In February, another popular opposition member was assassinated.
Chokri Belaid's death led to protests, violence, and the resignations of several members of Ennahda's government.
