Pouring rain led to mudslides and flooding near Manitou Springs, Colorado, Friday evening.
Nearly one and a half inches of rain fell in about half an hour.
One person was killed and three more injured as the mud and water swept cars and buildings with it.
Another three people are missing.
Highway 24 was swamped with mud, while Highway 50 closed due to flooding.
Authorities are describing the damage as "significant" in Manitou Springs.
They expect much of the weekend to be spent cleaning up, clearing streets, and figuring out just how much damage was done.
