Police in DC shot a woman dead after she led them on a short chase down Pennsylvania Avenue, on Thursday.
It began when the thirty-four year old Connecticut woman rammed her car into a barricade near the White House.
Unable to get through the barricade, on the first try, she reversed and then struck it again, this time making it through.
In the process of that she struck and injured a member of the Secret Service, who was trying to get her to stop.
She then raced down Pennsylvania Avenue, with police in pursuit.
As she approached Congress, police opened fire on her car, killing her.
Many government buildings, in the immediate area, were placed on lock down, due to the shooting.
A one year old little girl was found, unharmed, in the car and taken to protective services.
Officials say that a Capitol Police officer was injured, during the chase, when his car was totaled when he struck a barricade.
At this time, no motive for the incident is known.
Government officials are conducting a full investigation.
