Car Slams Into Virginia Parade Injury 60

Sixty people were injured when a car ran into a parade in Virginia, on Saturday.

Thousands of people were at the Appalachian Trail Days Parade, in Damascus, when the vehicle began plowing through the parade.

The vehicle was going about twenty-five miles per hour when it first struck the crowd.

According to authorities, the driver had a medical problem, and lost control of the car.

They did not release more information about the driver, but do not plan on pressing charges.

None of the injuries were too serious, and only nine people required hospitalization.

70 Injured in Connecticut Train Crash

Seventy people were injured when two commuter trains collided in Connecticut, on Friday.

Eight remain hospitalized with three of them still in critical condition.

One of the trains derailed from it's tracks, hitting the other head on.

Authorities believe that a piece of rail may have been broken, causing the accident.

The NTSB is continuing their investigation, they will also be investigating the crews of the trains as well as their responses to the incident.

Travel through the area will be shut down, until the tracks can be cleaned up and repaired, causing a major headache for commuters.

100,000 Protest in Rome

Over one hundred thousand people massed to protest in Rome, on Saturday.

They demanded that the government to focus on creating jobs instead of continuing austerity measures.

The government, which was elected nearly three months ago, but only formed a working coalition three weeks ago, is facing the worst recession the country has seen in nearly four decades.

National debt is the second largest in Europe, at one hundred and twenty-seven percent of the nation's economic output.

Unemployment is also very high, with the national average nearing twelve percent, while the average for those under twenty-five is closing in on forty percent.

Job creation was the primary promise of Prime Minister Letta, but his focus has seemed to been stuck on tax reforms instead.

6.0 Quake Hits Japan

A 6.0 quake shook parts of Japan, on Saturday afternoon.

The earthquake was centered near the Fukushima Prefecture, which suffered the deadly quake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.

No injuries were reported and damage was apparently very minor.

Travel by air and train was delayed while runways and rail lines were checked to ensure they were not damaged.

Officials believe that this was an after shock to the previous quake, which registered as a 9.0.

Aftershocks can happen for years, after a large quake.

Plane Catches Fire Landing in Moscow

A UTair Boeing 737 caught fire as it landed in Moscow, on Saturday.

The plane's left landing gear burst into flames on touch down, destroying the brakes on the wheels.

Authorities praised the pilot for keeping the plane under control and on the runway.

Fire crews were quickly able to put out the flames.

None of the one hundred and thirty-six people on board were injured in the incident.

Vnukovo airport was closed for about two hours as the plane was cleared from the runway.

During that time twenty-three flights had to be diverted to nearby airports.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

13 Killed in Iraq and 10 Police Kidnapped From Ramadi

Violent clashes took place in Iraq, on Saturday, making it four straight days of deadly attacks. In three separate attacks, thirteen people were killed.

Four militia members were killed in Garma, when their headquarters was attacked by gunmen. A car bomb struck in Latifiya, killing five.

Four people were killed there when the army made a raid and clashed with tribal forces near Ramadi. Gunmen then kidnapped ten Sunni police officers.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks or kidnappings, but the government believes that Shiite groups were involved. Al Qaeda and other Shiite groups have been working to bring the government down. Over the last four days, one hundred and thirty-two people have been killed, mostly by car bombings.

North Korea Launches 3 Missiles

Three short range missiles were fired out of North Korea, on Saturday.

Two of them were fired in the morning, while the third was fired in the morning.

All three fell into the Sea of Japan, and nothing was damaged by them.

For months North Korea has threatened to launch one of their mid range Musudan missiles.

Saturday's launch may have been a way for them to save face, while still backing down from their threats.

US Army: Sergeant 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker

Sergeant 1st Class Jeffrey C. Baker, twenty-nine of Hesperia, California, died on May 14.

He and three others were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in was struck by a roadside bomb, in Sanjaray, Afghanistan.

It was his second tour of duty.

Baker was assigned to the 766th Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group out of Fort Stewart, Georgia.

His decorations include: Bronze Star and Purple Heart, both posthumously.

US Army: Specialist William J. Gilbert

Specialist William J. Gilbert, twenty-four of Hacienda Heights, California, died on May 14.

He and three others were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in was struck by a roadside bomb, in Sanjaray, Afghanistan.

It was his first tour of duty.

Gilbert was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss, Texas.

Among his completed courses were: Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training.

His decorations include: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

US Army: Specialist Mitchell K. Daehling

Specialist Mitchell K. Daehling, twenty-four of Dalton, Massachusetts, died on May 14.

He and three others were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in was struck by a roadside bomb, in Sanjaray, Afghanistan.

It was his first tour of duty.

Daehling was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss, Texas.

Among his completed courses were: Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training.

His decorations include: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the NATO Medal.
