Egypt Launches Military Assault Into Sinai

Egypt launched a military assault into the Sinai, on Saturday.

Armored vehicles and helicopters roared through the area as troops engaged in fighting with militants.

Officials say that the militants were responsible for Thursday's deadly bombing, in Cario.

Ten militants were killed, twenty wounded, and fifteen arrested in the attack.

There were no reports of injuries or casualties amongst the Egyptian military forces.

Tony Abbott, Australia's New Prime Minister

Australian's said no to the Labor party, on Saturday, and voted in the Liberal-National coalition.

After six years in power, the Labor party could only gain fifty-seven seats.

The coalition captured eighty-eight of the country's one hundred and fifty parliamentary seats.

Three small parties each took a seat each, and two more are still being counted.

Tony Abbott, the leader of the coalition will be the new Prime Minister.

Abbot has promised tax cuts as well as budget cuts, specifically targeting the carbon tax and foreign aid.

He also pledged to cut down on illegal immigration and work to promote international businesses investing in Australia.

US Air Force: Staff Sergeant Todd J. Lobraico Jr.

Staff Sergeant Todd J. Lobraico Jr., twenty-two of New Fairfield, Connecticut, died on September 5.

He was killed in combat near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

It was his second tour of duty overseas.

Lobraico was assigned to the 105th Security Forces Squadron out of Stewart Air National Guard Base, New York.

Denver High Schools Closed Due to Credible Threat

East High School

Two Denver high schools were closed on Friday due to what police called a "credible threat".

Both East High School and Manual High School were closed at noon.

All after school activities were canceled, including Manual's homecoming dance.

Police did not release any information on what the threat was or where it came from.

Officials at both schools say that everything will be open, as normal, on Monday.

US Withdrawing Nonessential Staff From Certain Middle East Countries

The Obama administration ordered the temporary partial closures of several US embassies and consulates in the Middle East.

All nonessential diplomatic staff were ordered home, due to threats made against US citizens over the Syria crisis.

The closure effects buildings in Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey.

It is unclear when they will be reopened.

Egypt Clashes Leave 2 Dead

Thousands of Morsi supporters took to the streets in various Egyptian cities, on Friday.

Clashes erupted between them and opponents of the former president.

Two people were killed and dozens injured, across the country.

For the most part, the military was able to enforce peace, only needing to fire tear gas in a few occasions.

China Shows Off New Attack Helicopters

China showed off it's new WZ-10 attack helicopters, on Friday.

Piloted by elite army personnel, the helicopters showed off their weapons capabilities while performing an aerial ballet.

Clearly based off the AH-64 Apache, the WZ-10 has much the same capabilities.

The Chinese military says that they are not just a match for them, but better than the Apache which is used by the US and her allies.

1 Killed 60 Injured in Cairo Blast

A large explosion tore through a Cairo residential street, on Thursday.

One police officer was killed and more than sixty people were injured in the blast.

Authorities believe that the Interior Minister was the target of the explosion, as his convoy was passing through when it occurred.

He escaped without harm.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

2 Injured After Colorado Springs Plane Crash

Two people were injured in a plane crash in Colorado Springs, on Wednesday morning.

The Cessna lost all power just after take off and came down in a field not far from Colorado Springs Airport.

Both aboard the plane suffered minor injuries.

Peterson Air Force Base's west gate was closed for a time, due to the incident.

A spokesman for the base said that it was to keep traffic out of the way of emergency personnel.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.

Keita Inaugurated in Mali

Ibrahim Boubacar Keita was inaugurated as the new president of Mali, on Wednesday.

Keita, a former prime minister pledged to restore unity in the country.

Last year rebel forces backed by Al Qaeda swept through most of the nation.

A military coup took place during the invasion, as the civilian government was seen as too weak to deal with the threat.


In January, French troops came to the rescue stopping the Al Qaeda surge and then were joined by African Union forces in pushing them out of Mali.

With the nation no longer under threat of being overwhelmed, Malians went to the polls in July.

Nearly thirteen thousand African Union troops remain in the country, to ensure peace.
