Kansas Schools Locked Down by Threat

Shawnee Mission schools, in Kansas, were locked down, on Monday, due to a "vague threat".

The district received a threat that there would be a shooting outside an unspecified school.

As a precaution they locked all exterior doors and canceled any activities that couldn't be held indoors.

No classes were canceled and students were released at the normal time.

Police kept an extra eye on school grounds, but no incidents occurred.

Bus Crash Leaves 38 Dead in Guatemala

Thirty-eight people were killed and forty-six injured in a bus crash in Guatemala.

Monday's crash happened about forty miles northwest of Guatemala City.

The bus went off a cliff and fell nearly seven hundred feet.

Authorities are working to investigate what caused the accident.

Weather is not believed to have been a factor.

Officials have stated that the bus was over capacity.

Labor Loses in Norway's Election

Solberg casts her ballot

Norwegians hit the polls on Monday and knocked the Labor party from running things.

As a party, Labor still holds the most seats.

However, Labor's coalition only managed to maintain seventy-one of the one hundred and sixty-nine seats.

The opposition is expected to form a coalition behind Erna Solberg, which would make her the first conservative prime minister since 1990.

Jens Stoltenberg had maintained the spot for the last eight years, as the Labor party ruled the government.

Solberg's Conservative party ran on lowering taxes and loosening government control, both of which are popular amongst the people.

The Conservative party saw the most gain in seats, while all of the parties in Labor's coalition lost seats.

10,000 Rally to Demand Runoff Election in Moscow

More than ten thousand rallied in Moscow, on Monday, to protest the result of Sunday's mayoral election.

They are demanding that there be a runoff election between Alexei Navalny and Sergei Sobyanin.

Sobyanin, who is backed by president Putin, won the election with just over fifty percent of the vote.

Navalny, an anti corruption campaigner, has accused the government of rigging the election, to ensure Putin's man won.

55 Dead in Central African Republic Fighting

Fighting in the Central African Republic has left at least fifty-five dead.

Gun battles broke out between the supporters of the former president and the rebels who over threw him.

The current regime accuses the former president of orchestrating the violence and trying to over throw the current president.

They have called for the UN and African Union to intervene and restore order.

Most of the international community puts more political support behind the former president as the new government is accused of committing atrocities against it's own people.

Egypt's Sinai Campaign Continues Through Third Day

Egypt's campaign into the Sinai continued through it's third day, on Monday.

Helicopters, tanks, and armored vehicles have led the way as the military works to clear out Islamist militants.

On Monday, they focused on closing tunnels leading to Gaza, through which Hamas moves.

During the offensive, two soldiers and nineteen militants have been killed.

Well over a hundred buildings have been destroyed as gunships blow apart anywhere that the militants choose to hide.

Hundreds of weapons have been confiscated, mostly at three caches, that were found in two houses and a mosque.

Anti aircraft missiles, bombs, mortar launchers, rocket propelled grenades, and suicide bomb belts were all amongst the munitions seized.

Russia Suggest Syria Give up Control of Chemical Weapons

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov proposed a way to end the threats of a western attack on Syria.

Lavrov proposed that Syria place all of it's chemical weapons under international monitoring.

He went further to suggest that from there they could be dismantled

Syrian foreign minister Walid Moualem thanked Russia for the suggestion and for Russia's continued support of his country's government.

Moualem did not accept the offer, but did not decline it either.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon urged Syria to take the offer.

The Obama administration warned Syria that they should expect to use the offer as a way to further delay an international response to the use of chemical weapons, in Syria, last month.

President Obama has repeatedly accused the Assad regime of making the chemical attack, which they completely deny.

A UN team investigated the claim and is preparing it's findings for release.

13 Injured at Connecticut State Fair

Thirteen people, including twelve children, were injured at the Connecticut state fair, on Sunday.

The Zumur ride lost power causing it to come to an immediate, complete stop and slamming those riding it into each other.

For a time the entire fair was closed, but the rest of the rides were reopened.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the sudden loss of power and say that the ride had just been inspected earlier in the morning.

Egypt Continues Sinai Offensive

Egypt continued it's military offensive against the militants in the Sinai, on Sunday.

Apache helicopters led the way, destroying targets ahead of ground forces.

As the ground troops moved in they made arrests and seized hundreds of weapons.

According to the military, the weapons were found in two houses and a mosque.

Anti aircraft missiles, bombs, mortar launchers, rocket propelled grenades, and suicide bomb belts were all amongst the munitions seized.

More than one hundred buildings have been destroyed during the operation.

Turkey Continues Military Buildup Along Border With Syria

Turkey continues to build up it's military presence along the border with Syria.

Tanks, armored vehicles, infantry, and missile defense systems have placed right on the border.

The Turkish government has been one of the biggest supporters of the Syrian rebels.

Multiple times Turkey has threatened to broaden the war and join the fight against the Assad regime.

As the rest of the world considers a strike against Syria, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has made it clear that Turkey is more than willing to aid and support any military efforts.

For the most part, Syria has ignored the growing presence, as they are busy fighting the civil war.

However, their Iranian allies have threatened retaliation against any nation which attacks Syria.

As western governments talk more about a strike, Turkey feels more safe in preparing to make a move.
