2 US Citizens Kidnapped by Pirates Off Nigeria

The C-Retriever
Two Americans have been kidnapped off the coast of Nigeria, by pirates.

Wednesday's attack, was confirmed on Thursday by the US government.

Pirates attacked the C-Retriever, an oil platform supply boat out of Louisiana, and took the ship's captain and chief engineer with them.

Their identities have not been released.

No information was released about the rest of the crew, or the C-Retriever's condition.

This was the forty-first pirate attack in the Gulf of Guinea, in 2013.

In those attacks, one hundred and thirty-two people have been taken hostage.

Improvised Explosive Device Found in Denver Yard

An improvised explosive device was found in a yard, in Denver.

Wednesday morning's discovery was made in the Park Hill area.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, until a bomb squad safely detonated the device.

 Police did release any information about the device, just saying that it appeared home made.

They are conducting a full investigation, trying to determine who placed it there and why.

Fighter Jet Goes Down in Switzerland

A Swiss F/A 18 went down near Alpnachstad, in bad weather, on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash has since been spotted, with little hope that the crew of two survived.

It is believed that the plane hit a cliff over Lake Alpnach.

A full investigation is planned, to determine what was the cause of the crash.

As a precaution, Switzerland has grounded all of it's F/A 18s.

2 Injured in Apartment Fire in Aurora

Two people were injured in an apartment fire, in Aurora, Colorado, Tuesday morning.

The two alarm fire occurred at the Woodhaven Apartments.

Fourteen people were rescued, by firefighters who were able to contain the fire to just one apartment.

However, several other units suffered smoke and water damage.

Firefighters are being praised for putting out the fire in just eleven minutes, after arriving.

An arson investigation is underway, and investigators note that this is the third suspicious fire in the Woodhaven Apartments, in 2013.

4 Fires Destroy 16 Vehicles in Lakewood, Colorado

Four fires erupted Tuesday morning in Lakewood, Colorado, destroying sixteen vehicles.

All four fires happened within half a mile of each other.

The first, at 04:11, destroyed two vehicles, a garage, and a house.

At 05:11, a second fire destroyed one car.

Then at 05:41, a carport and twelve vehicles in it were torched.

Finally at 06:26, a fourth fire destroyed a handyman's truck and all his tools that were in it.

Investigators are treating each as a separate crime scene, so as to not jump to any conclusions.

However, due to the timing and location, they do believe that the four fires were likely set by the same person.

Authorities are asking anyone who saw anything to call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.

3 Killed in Tennessee Medical Helicopter Crash

Three people were killed when a medical helicopter crashed in Tennessee.

It happened Tuesday morning near Somerville.

The helicopter was on it's way to pick up a patient when it went down.

Aboard the aircraft were the forty-seven year old pilot Charles Smith, forty-three year old nurse Carrie Barlow, and forty-three year old respiratory therapist Denise Adams.

A full investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash.

Nevada School Shooting Leaves 2 Dead

A shooting took place at Sparks Middle School, in Sparks, Nevada, on Monday.

Authorities say a student brought a hand gun to school.

Just before school was to start, the student shot a teacher and two other students, before turning the gun on himself.

Both the shooter and the teacher died, from their wounds.

No motive is yet known for the shooting, and the identity of the shooter has not yet been released.

The teacher has been identified as Mike Landsberry, a math teacher.

Landsberry was a former Marine and a member of the Nevada Air National Guard who had served multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan.

France Complains About US Spy Programs

Relations between the US and France took a strained toned on Monday.

Another set of Snowden leaks were released, showing that the NSA spied on French phone calls and text messaging.

According to the leaks, more than seventy million calls and several million texts were intercepted.

France called the American ambassador for discussions about the issue.

However, some political analysts note that France is accused of running similar spy programs.

They suggest that the French government is attempting to distract the French people from their own spying, by waving the US's same plots.

Suicide Bomber Kills 6 in Russia

A suicide bomber struck in Volgograd, Russia, on Monday.

The attack happened on a bus, in the afternoon.

Six people were killed, including the bomber, and thirty-three injured in the blast.

According to witnesses, the bomber was a woman.

No group has claimed the attack.
