Fires Continue to Burn Through Southern Australia

Over one hundred fires are burning across three Australian states.

Victoria has more than seventy alone, with flames destroying homes in Melbourne's suburbs.

New South Wales and South Australia are also struggling with blazes.

Throughout the three states dozens of emergency warnings are in place.

Firefighters are struggling to stop the flames, let alone begin knocking out the fires.

Dry conditions, high temperatures, and strong winds have made their jobs all the harder.

2 Killed When Boulder Strikes Train in France's Alps

Two people were killed and nine were injured when a rock slide derailed their train, on Saturday.

A car sized boulder, followed by smaller rocks, crashed into the first car of the train, derailing the entire train.

The incident occurred in the French Alps.

Thirty-four people were aboard the train when the accident happened.

Heavy snow and the isolated location made it difficult for rescue workers to reach the accident.

Police Clear Out Internet Freedom Protesters in Istanbul

Turkish police fired tear gas and water cannons to clear out protesters, in Istanbul, on Saturday.

Protesters were demonstrating against new rules passed by parliament, which give the government greater power over the internet.

The new laws grant the government the ability to shut down websites, within hours, without reason.

Demonstrators accuse the government of trying to limit the voice of any opposition.

The government says that the new laws will be used to protect privacy.

Snow Storm Kills 5 and Injures Over 600 in Japan

Five people have been killed and over six hundred injured as the result of a snow storm, in Japan.

The storm has dropped over a foot of snow, in some areas, making the largest snowfall in twenty years.

Blizzard and severe storm warnings have been issued for most of the country.

Accidents have caused the majority of the deaths and injuries, with drivers unused to the conditions.

Snow is expected to continue to fall through Sunday morning.

Protesters Light Government Buildings on Fire in Sarajevo

Protesters in Sarajevo set fire to government buildings, on Friday, as protests continue there and in other cities.

Three days of protests in Bosnia-Hercegovina have left hundreds injured.

Police have used rubber bullets, water cannons, and tear gas in attempts to clear out the protesters, but to little avail.

High unemployment has been the spurring anger behind the protests.

Bosnia-Hercegovina is dealing with unemployment rates around forty percent.

Attempted Plane Hijacking Fails

A hijacking attempt was made on a Pegasus Airlines flight, on Friday.

While the plane was in the air, a passenger claimed he had a bomb in the baggage compartment.

He demanded the plane reroute to Sochi, Russia, where the Olympics are being held, instead of it's planned destination in Sabiha Gokcen, Turkey.

The pilots pretended to follow his demands, but continued on to Turkey, sending out a signal that they were being hijacked.

Upon it's landing, in Turkey, police rushed aboard the plane and arrested the would be hijacker.

Passengers were evacuated from the plane, and a search for any explosives was begun.

It is unclear what the man's plans or motive were.

Arvada Hostage Situation Concluded in Colorado

A hostage situation in Arvada, Colorado concluded Tuesday morning, with the suspect killed and the hostage safe.

It began as part of a domestic dispute, around 17:30 on Monday evening.

When police arrived, to resolve the dispute, the suspect fled the home and forced entry into a neighboring house, taking a teenage boy hostage.

With negotiations losing any hope of success, SWAT members shot the suspect, through the door of the home, just after 11:00, Tuesday morning.

The suspect died from his wounds, while the hostage was unharmed.

Police say that the suspect and hostage did not know each other.

No identities have been released at this time.

Al Qaeda Disowns Extremist Wing in Syria and Iraq

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has found itself disowned by Al Qaeda.

On Tuesday, Al Qaeda announced that they do not support the group's actions and said that they are no longer part of their terrorist network.

ISIL fights mostly in Syria and Iraq, and is responsible for splitting the rebel front in Syria, by repeatedly attacking non Islamic troops and villages.

Their shariah laws are more extreme than even Al Qaeda wants to be connected to.

Al Qaeda recognizes the Nusra Front as their official wing in Syria, and claims that they ordered ISIL to not even form.

It is unclear if this will lead to direct conflict between the factions, but it is likely.

Bangkok Hampered by Violence the Day Before Elections

A gun battle broke out in front of a polling station, in Bangkok, on Saturday.

The battle took place in the Laski area between protesters who were blocking the polling station and government supporters who were trying to get the ballot papers.

Six people were wounded in the violence, including one who is in critical condition with a bullet wound to the neck.

Afterwards, government officials announced that no voting would take place in the Laski area, due to the shooting and the blockade of the poll station.

Protesters are expected to have success blocking other polling stations throughout Bangkok and the south of Thailand.

In the north and east, where support for the government is strong, there is not expected to be much hampering of the voting, when the election takes place on Sunday.

The protests began in November, with demands that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra resign, with many demanding she and her family leave the country.

Her party is expected to win the election, and gain more in it.

Opposition hopes had been to delay the election til later in the year, when they felt they could gather more support, however they have been unable to accomplish that.

Sinabung Eruption Kills 16 in Indonesia

Sixteen people were killed when Mount Sinabung erupted, on Saturday.

Four people were injured, including one who is in critical condition after suffering extensive burns.

Another fifty more people are missing.

On Friday, government officials had lifted an evacuation order, saying that volcanic activity was decreasing.

Over thirty thousand people had been evacuated in November, when activity increased.
