Child Safe After 6 Day Standoff in Alabama

A five year old child is safe after being held hostage for six days.

It all began last Tuesday afternoon when sixty-five year old Jimmy Lee Dykes boarded a school bus in Midland City, Alabama.

Dykes shot the driver, sixty-six year old Charles Albert Poland Jr., killing him, and grabbed a five year old little boy, named Ethan.

He then took the child to his property, and locked himself and his hostage inside a bunker, he had constructed.

Police had been in negotiations with Dykes, since Tuesday evening, and Dykes had agreed to allow things for Ethan to be sent down, such as medicine, toys, and his favorite snack.

However, things deteriorated over the last few hours.

The FBI made the decision to go in, on Monday afternoon, as they felt Ethan was in serious imminent danger.

Exact details have not been released yet, but officers managed to breach the bunker and save five year old Ethan.

During the rescue, Dykes was shot and killed.

California Bus Crash Kills 8

A bus crash, in California, left eight dead and thirty-five injured, Sunday night.

Witnesses reported that bus's brakes seemed to fail as it was coming down a mountain.

It collided with several other vehicles, throwing passengers out of the bus, before finally stopping.

The bus had been carrying Mexican tourists, who had gone to Big Bear Lake, for a skiing trip.

Suicide Bomber Claims 36 Lives in Kirkuk

Thirty-six people were killed and one hundred and five injured, in a suicide blast, in Kirkuk, on Sunday.

The bomber targeted an Iraqi provincial police headquarters.

Witnesses said that the bomber was in police uniform and driving a police vehicle.

Police say they killed three other would be bombers, shortly after the first blast, when they came running up lobbing grenades.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, which is in an area being argued over by Iraq and Kurds.

Paraguayan Presidential Candidate Killed in Helicopter Crash

Paraguayan Presidential candidate Lino Oviedo was killed in a helicopter crash, on Sunday.

A former general, he was recognized by some as a hero, who helped overthrow a dictatorship.

The sixty-nine year old was expected to finish fourth or fifth, in the election, but he was still fighting hard for every vote, traveling to remote locations to speak to villages.

Government officials are promising to investigate the cause of the crash.

For the next three days Paraguay will have a period of morning, and all official activities are cancelled or postponed.

Kabul Police Raid Terror House

Sunday night, Afghani police led a raid in Kabul.

Inside the residential building they found six men, who they arrested as terrorists.

With the men they found suicide vests, rifles, and dozens of hand grenades.

Kabul's police chief, Mohammad Ayub Salangi, praised the work of his officers.

He also used it to brag about how his force is doing more to be preemptive against terrorism.

Fire in Dhaka Destroys 100 Homes

Fire broke out in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Sunday.

Around one hundred homes were destroyed, as the flames sped through a shanty town.

Residents joined firefighters in putting out the blaze.

Some went ahead of the fire and tore down houses, moving the pieces out of range of the flames.

It is unclear what sparked the fire.

There were no reports of death or injuries.

Armed police quickly surrounded the area, to keep looters out, and ensure no protests could occur.

Boston Bus Crash Injures 34

A bus crash in Boston left thirty-four injured, on Saturday night.

One of the injured was hurt critically, three seriously, and thirty more suffered minor injuries.

Aboard the bus, had been a group of high schoolers, and their chaperones, from Pennsylvania, who had been in Boston to tour Harvard.

It was not released how many of the injured were students or adults.

The bus hit an overpass, with clearance of only ten feet, sheering the sides and roof off of the front part of the bus.

The four more seriously injured passengers had to be lifted out of the roof of the bus.

Police are investigating the incident, as they decide whether or not to charge the driver.

70 Year Old Coach Shoots Attempted Robbers

Two people were shot, one of them killed when they tried to pull a robbery outside of a Detroit school.

It happened Friday night, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Senior High School.

A seventy year old coach was walking two members of the girl's basketball team to their cars, when the robbers approached.

One of the robbers pulled a gun, but the coach pulled one, as well.

The coach won the battle, shooting and killing one of the robbers, and wounding the second.

No identities have been released yet, but both of the attempted robbers were students at the school.

Nebraska's Lt. Governor Resigns

Nebraska's Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy resigned on Saturday.

Governor Dave Heinemann had asked for his resignation, saying Sheehy had broken "the public trust".

An investigation had turned up information that Sheehy had used public resources to help him cheat on his wife, with multiple women, over the last four years.

His wife divorced him in July of 2012, with her stating that their marriage was "irretrievably broken".

Sheehy had been working on his own gubernatorial campaign, but that is likely over now, with scandal ending his current role.

Iran Shows Off New Jet

Iran unveiled a new fighter, on Saturday.

The Qaher 313 was shown flying and on display, on state TV.

President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad said that it is one of the most sophisticated jets in the world.

He went on to state that it, like Iran's nuclear program, is for peaceful purposes.

Officials also claimed that the new fighter has stealth capabilities, making it invisible to any form of radar.
