13 Injured at Connecticut State Fair

Thirteen people, including twelve children, were injured at the Connecticut state fair, on Sunday.

The Zumur ride lost power causing it to come to an immediate, complete stop and slamming those riding it into each other.

For a time the entire fair was closed, but the rest of the rides were reopened.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the sudden loss of power and say that the ride had just been inspected earlier in the morning.

Egypt Continues Sinai Offensive

Egypt continued it's military offensive against the militants in the Sinai, on Sunday.

Apache helicopters led the way, destroying targets ahead of ground forces.

As the ground troops moved in they made arrests and seized hundreds of weapons.

According to the military, the weapons were found in two houses and a mosque.

Anti aircraft missiles, bombs, mortar launchers, rocket propelled grenades, and suicide bomb belts were all amongst the munitions seized.

More than one hundred buildings have been destroyed during the operation.

Turkey Continues Military Buildup Along Border With Syria

Turkey continues to build up it's military presence along the border with Syria.

Tanks, armored vehicles, infantry, and missile defense systems have placed right on the border.

The Turkish government has been one of the biggest supporters of the Syrian rebels.

Multiple times Turkey has threatened to broaden the war and join the fight against the Assad regime.

As the rest of the world considers a strike against Syria, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has made it clear that Turkey is more than willing to aid and support any military efforts.

For the most part, Syria has ignored the growing presence, as they are busy fighting the civil war.

However, their Iranian allies have threatened retaliation against any nation which attacks Syria.

As western governments talk more about a strike, Turkey feels more safe in preparing to make a move.

Thousands Protest in Brazil

Thousands protested across Brazil, during Saturday's independence day celebrations.

In several cities, protesters fought with police, who responded with tear gas and arrests.

The protesters are demonstrating against corruption and excessive government spending.

Brazil has been spending millions on sport facilities as they prepare to host the World Cup in 2014 and the 2016 Olympics.

Protesters say that the money should be spent on improving conditions for Brazilians, rather than showing off for the world.

18 Killed in Dual Blast in Mogadishu

Eighteen people were killed and dozens more injured when a dual blast struck Mogadishu.

A car bomb blew up outside a popular restaurant, in Somalia's capital.

Moments later, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside the restaurant, as people gathered inside for shelter.

Al Shabaab quickly claimed responsibility for the attack.

They struck the same restaurant, last September, killing twenty.

Egypt Launches Military Assault Into Sinai

Egypt launched a military assault into the Sinai, on Saturday.

Armored vehicles and helicopters roared through the area as troops engaged in fighting with militants.

Officials say that the militants were responsible for Thursday's deadly bombing, in Cario.

Ten militants were killed, twenty wounded, and fifteen arrested in the attack.

There were no reports of injuries or casualties amongst the Egyptian military forces.

Tony Abbott, Australia's New Prime Minister

Australian's said no to the Labor party, on Saturday, and voted in the Liberal-National coalition.

After six years in power, the Labor party could only gain fifty-seven seats.

The coalition captured eighty-eight of the country's one hundred and fifty parliamentary seats.

Three small parties each took a seat each, and two more are still being counted.

Tony Abbott, the leader of the coalition will be the new Prime Minister.

Abbot has promised tax cuts as well as budget cuts, specifically targeting the carbon tax and foreign aid.

He also pledged to cut down on illegal immigration and work to promote international businesses investing in Australia.

US Air Force: Staff Sergeant Todd J. Lobraico Jr.

Staff Sergeant Todd J. Lobraico Jr., twenty-two of New Fairfield, Connecticut, died on September 5.

He was killed in combat near Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

It was his second tour of duty overseas.

Lobraico was assigned to the 105th Security Forces Squadron out of Stewart Air National Guard Base, New York.

Denver High Schools Closed Due to Credible Threat

East High School

Two Denver high schools were closed on Friday due to what police called a "credible threat".

Both East High School and Manual High School were closed at noon.

All after school activities were canceled, including Manual's homecoming dance.

Police did not release any information on what the threat was or where it came from.

Officials at both schools say that everything will be open, as normal, on Monday.

US Withdrawing Nonessential Staff From Certain Middle East Countries

The Obama administration ordered the temporary partial closures of several US embassies and consulates in the Middle East.

All nonessential diplomatic staff were ordered home, due to threats made against US citizens over the Syria crisis.

The closure effects buildings in Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey.

It is unclear when they will be reopened.
