Police Kill Driver After Short Chase in DC

Police in DC shot a woman dead after she led them on a short chase down Pennsylvania Avenue, on Thursday.

It began when the thirty-four year old Connecticut woman rammed her car into a barricade near the White House.

Unable to get through the barricade, on the first try, she reversed and then struck it again, this time making it through.

In the process of that she struck and injured a member of the Secret Service, who was trying to get her to stop.

She then raced down Pennsylvania Avenue, with police in pursuit.

As she approached Congress, police opened fire on her car, killing her.

Many government buildings, in the immediate area, were placed on lock down, due to the shooting.

A one year old little girl was found, unharmed, in the car and taken to protective services.

Officials say that a Capitol Police officer was injured, during the chase, when his car was totaled when he struck a barricade.

At this time, no motive for the incident is known.

Government officials are conducting a full investigation.

103 Migrants Die Off Italy's Coast

A boat carrying migrants from Libya to Italy went down off the Italian coast, on Thursday.

A fire broke out on the boat and those on board rushed to one side, to avoid the flames, causing the boat to capsize.

Over one hundred and fifty people were rescued, while one hundred and three bodies were found.

Officials say that as many as five hundred were aboard the boat.

Boats, helicopters, and planes are scouring the area, searching for more survivors.

Plane Crash in Nigeria Kills 15

Fifteen people were killed when an airplane crashed in Nigeria, on Thursday morning.

The plane had just left Murtala Muhammad International Airport, in Lagos, when it came down less than half a mile away.

No buildings were struck, nor was there a fire, but the plane did break up on contact with the ground.

One survivor is in critical condition, while four are in stable.

A full investigation is underway, to determine the cause of the crash.

Tom Clancy, Dead at 66

Famed writer, Tom Clancy, died at the age of sixty-six, on October 1, 2013.

He was born on April 12, 1947, in Baltimore, Marlyand.

In 1984, his first book, The Hunt for Red October, debuted and it quickly brought him international notice.

Seventeen of his books would become best sellers, with his latest set to come out on December 3.

Clancy cofounded Red Storm Entertainment, in 1996, as a way to bring his books to the video game world.

A life long Republican, he joined the National Rifle Association in 1978, and in 1993 became one of the owners of the Baltimore Orioles.

8 Killed in Tennessee Bus Crash

Eight people were killed and fourteen injured in a three vehicle accident in Tennessee.

Wednesday's accident occurred on Interstate 40, in Jefferson County.

A tire on a church bus blew out, causing the driver to lose control.

The bus crossed the median, slamming into an SUV and a big rig truck.

Six people on the bus, one of the passengers of the SUV, and the truck driver were killed.

Interstate 40 was shut down for hours, by the accident.

Jacksonville Airport Reopened After Bomb Squad Disposes of "Dangerous Device"

Jacksonville International Airport ran normally on Wednesday, following Tuesday evening's closure.

The lasted about five hours after two suspicious packages were found, at the Florida airport.

One of the packages was inside the terminal, while the second was in the parking garage.

Police said that one of them was determined to be a "dangerous device" and was safely detonated by a bomb squad.

During the closure, the entire airport was evacuated and incoming flights were diverted.

More WWII Veterans Cross Memorial Barricades

For the second straight day barricades at the World War II Memorial were simply pushed aside as veterans came to tour it.

Groups from Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio moved right in and ignored signs saying that the memorial was closed, due to the government shutdown.

Police were present, but made no effort to stop the World War II veterans.

Tuesday had seen the same scene, though the veterans then had paused before the barricades disappeared before them.

Wednesday differed in that protesters also made appearances, most of the police attention was on them.

More veteran groups are scheduled to visit the memorial, nearly every day in October.

Russia's Embassy in Libya Attacked

A mob attacked Russia's embassy in Tripoli, Libya, on Wednesday.

Sixty some people attempted to storm the embassy, but were repulsed by it's guards.

They did manage to tear the Russian flag, before they were pushed back.

At least some of the attackers were armed and exchanged fire with the guards, on the walls.

No one inside the embassy was hurt in the incident.

It is not clear what set off the attack or who was behind it.

Jacksonville Airport Closed by 2 Suspicious Packages

Jacksonville International Airport was shutdown, on Tuesday evening.

According to a spokesman, two suspicious packages were found in the Florida airport.

One of the packages is inside the terminal, while the second is in the parking garage.

The entire airport has been shut down and evacuated, while police investigate.

At this point, there is no set time for reopening the airport.

Inbound flights are being rerouted, while out bound flights have been cancelled.

Veterans Cross Barricades to View War Memorials in DC

Three veteran groups refused to be blocked by the government shutdown.

At the World War II Memorial a group of veterans from Mississippi came up to the closed signs and kept on going.

It was unclear who removed the barricades, for the veterans, but a way through was made for them.

Police were called, but they made no effort to remove the veterans from the memorial, which immortalizes the war they fought in.

The group from Mississippi was later followed by a group from Iowa whose way was never blocked.

Both groups were escorted by Republican congressmen, who stated they wished to pay homage to the veterans.

The story repeated at the Korean War Memorial, where a veterans group from Puerto Rico had come to lay a wreath.

Multiple veterans, who were interviewed, commented that Congress should be replaced if it couldn't keep the government running.
