EU Approves Oil Sales From Syrian Opposition

Members of the EU have agreed to ease restrictions on Syrian oil.

Under the new agreement, oil from rebel occupied areas will no longer be embargoed.

Oil from areas still held by the regime will still be embargoed.

According to the EU, the new deal will "help the civilian population and opposition".

Before the civil war began, about a quarter of Syria's economy was based on oil sales.

Allowing the opposition to sell oil could help them in their battles to find funding for weapons with which to fight the regime.

It will also help the EU, by beginning to return one of their sources for oil.
