Public transit, air traffic controllers, hospital staff, and other government workers walked off the job at the appointed time.
They marched through the streets chanting and waving signs.
The strikes are a protest for the latest round of planned austerity measures.
Parliament will be voting on Wednesday to decide whether or not to pass them.
Passing the measures will mean lay offs and wage cuts.
Greece must pass the measures if they want to see nine billion euros in loans from the EU.
