Eighty-two people died in the fighting between M23 rebels and Congo's military.
According to the government twenty-three of the dead were soldiers, while the rest were rebels.
Fighting has been going for five days now, after a the two sides seemed to be nearing a permanent cease fire.
Government forces were hoping to dislodge the rebels from the hills over looking Goma, but have only made a mile of progress.
UN forces are working in cooperation with the government forces, defending the town and using their helicopters to attack rebel lines.
