27th Person Dies From H7N9

A twenty-seventh person has now died from H7N9, in China.

At least one hundred and twenty people have contracted the strain of bird flu, including one in Taiwan.

Medical treatment is normally able to save patients, especially if caught early.

H7N9 acts differently than other strains as it attacks the lower part of the lungs, while the others attack the upper.

When the upper lungs are attacked it causes coughing and respiratory problems, but when the lower part of the lungs are hit it causes high fevers and pneumonia, which are much deadlier.

Cubs Threaten to Leave Chicago

Tom Ricketts, chairman of the Chicago Cubs made an unexpected move on Wednesday.

He threatened to pull the Cubs out of Chicago if all of his family's plans for the renovation of Wrigley Field aren't approved.

Amongst those plans are a brand new video scoreboard and outfield signs, that would block some neighboring buildings from using their roofs to watch the games.

Almost all of the renovations, to the field and surrounding area, are being paid completely by the Ricketts family.

The family has come to an agreement with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, but the plans still need to be fully approved by the city.

All of the plans are expected to be approved, despite the threats by some of the neighboring buildings to sue, if their views are blocked.

Only in a worse case situation are the Ricketts actually likely to pull the Cubs out of Chicago, leaving it very unclear why the threat was vocalized.

Blackstone Promises to Hire 50,000 Veterans

International asset management, financial services, investment banking, and private equity company the Blackstone Group has pledged to purposefully begin hiring US veterans.

Blackstone is promising that it will hire fifty thousand vets, over the next five years.

The company is really a conglomeration of many companies, and they will work to find room for the vets in all of their holdings.

CEO Steve Schwarzman hopes that by doing so Blackstone can help vets by not just giving them jobs, but by improving their lives.

He also hopes that the company's involvement will help see a decrease in veteran suicide rates.

King Willem-Alexander Crowned

King Willem-Alexander became the official monarch of the Netherlands, on Tuesday. In a grand ceremony he pledged himself to the nation.

"I swear that I shall defend and preserve the independence and territory of the state with all my powers. That I shall protect the general and individual freedom and rights of all my subjects and shall use all available means granted to me by law for preserving and promoting general and individual prosperity as I befitting of a good king, so help me God almighty."

In doing so he became the first king the country has seen, since 1890. At the age of forty-six, he is the youngest monarch in Europe.

His mother, Queen Beatrice, seventy-five, abdicated after thirty-three years of rule. She became the third straight monarch to abdicate, instead of dying on the throne.

Violence in Dagestan Kills 5

Makhachkala

Five people were killed in two separate incidents in Dagestan, Russia, on Wednesday.

Three people were killed and two injured when unknown assailants open fired on a police car in the town of Buinaksk.

Officials did not release information stating if all of the victims were officers, or if some were bystanders.

Hours later, a bomb struck the capital city of Makhachkala, killing two and wounding two others.

According to reports, a package loaded with explosives had been abandoned on the street.

The package exploded when one of the four victims picked it up.

It is unclear if the two attacks were related.

5.8 Quake Rocks Kashmir

A 5.8 earthquake rocked the Kashmir region, on Wednesday.

One person was killed and fifty injured when the quake struck northern India.

Most of the injuries were to school children, as roofs in two different schools collapsed.

Many other buildings were damaged, landslides cut off some areas, and at least one road caved in on itself.

The shaking was felt as far away as New Delhi and throughout eastern Pakistan.

High Tensions Follow Brawl in Venezuela's Parliament

Proceedings in Venezuela's parliament broke down on Tuesday, as the deeply divided government began fighting itself.

Supporters of president Nicolas Maduro physically attacked opposition members, leading to a brawl that left injuries on both sides.

On Wednesday, opposition leader Henrique Capriles led a march through the suburbs of Caracas.

Tens of thousands joined him as they celebrated International Workers Day and called for further challenges to the election.

Maduro led a separate march through the city's downtown, also to celebrate the day and as yet another memorial to former president Hugo Chavez.

Leaders of both groups kept the marches far apart and urged for peace, and for the day at least they gained it.

Tensions have been increasing since April's elections, in which Maduro beat Capriles by just over one percent.

Gunmen Surround Libyan Justice Ministry

Gunmen in Libya surrounded the justice ministry, on Tuesday.

They asked the employees and minister to leave, and peacefully let them do so.

On Sunday, they surrounded the foreign ministry and are still maintaining their presence there.

Roads to the buildings have been blocked with trucks carrying anti aircraft guns.

The gunmen are demanding that the government block all officials who served under Qaddafi be blocked from working in the new government.

Once their demands are met, they say they will peaceably leave.

The government had promised to remove all Qaddafi era officials, in March, but did not fulfill the promise.

14 Killed, 103 Injured in Damascus Explosion

For the second day in a row rebel forces bombed the heart of Damascus.

Tuesday's target was the Marjeh commercial district.

Fourteen people were killed and one hundred and three injured in the explosion.

The blast damaged dozens of cars and surrounding buildings.

No one has claimed responsibility yet, but Jabhat al-Nusra is considered the likely suspect.

The rebel group is considered a terrorist organization, by many countries.

Russian Passenger Plane Fired Upon by Syrian Rebels

A Russian airliner carrying one hundred fifty nine passengers had two missiles fired at it, as it flew over Syria.

The Nordwind Airlines Airbus A320 was flying from Kazan, Russia to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt on Monday afternoon.

As it was flying at around thirty-two thousand feet, the pilots detected two incoming missiles.

The pilots were able to take emergency measures and safely maneuver the plane out of harms way.

No damage was taken by the plane, nor was anyone aboard injured.

As the region where the missiles originated from is under rebel control, they are being blamed for the attack.

Russia has now banned all aircraft from flying over Syrian airspace, before they had just advised planes to avoid it.
