Massive Pet Food Recall

Natura Pet Products has announced a recall of pet foods due to a possible salmonella contamination.

Food that has been contaminated could cause illness in pets who consume it, or in humans who come in contact with it.

The recall includes California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Innova, Karma, and Mother Nature brands.

It covers all dry pet food and biscuit/bar/treat products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

FBI Director Admits Use of Drones in US

FBI Director Robert Mueller admitted that the FBI uses drones for surveillance, inside the US.

Mueller was before the Senate Judiciary Committee, on Wednesday, when the admission was made.

According to the Director, the FBI rarely uses drone, and only has done so in extreme circumstances.

He said that while they do not have specific guidelines in place, such are being formed and prepared.

Brazil to Send Troops to Quell Riots

Brazil has announced that they will be sending military troops into five cities.

Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador have seen riots over the past few days.

Riot police have been unable to restore order, and so now the government feels that the military is needed.

Protests began in the cities as the people demand better public services.

The country is spending billions of dollars on soccer facilities, as the cities will be hosting the 2016 World Cup.

Many Brazilians feel that the government should spend the money directly on them, instead of bettering the facilities for a world event.

Al Shabaab Attack on UN Headquarters Leaves 16 Dead

Sixteen people were killed when members of Al Shabaab attacked the UN headquarters in Mogadishu, on Wednesday.

Most of those killed belonged to the Somali militants, which are allied to Al Qaeda.

The attack which, resulted in a ninety minute firefight, was proof by Al Shabaab that they are still to be dealt with.

UN peacekeepers were joined by African Union peacekeepers and Somali security forces, in fending off the attackers.

150 Confirmed Dead in Uttarakhand

Torrential rains continue to assail Uttarakhand, causing flooding and mudslides.

One hundred and fifty bodies have been recovered and officials believe that number will grow much larger.

Entire villages are still under the raging waters and thousands are missing.

At least sixty-five thousand people are cutoff from rescue, with supplies being dropped in by helicopter.

Military forces have airlifted more than twenty thousand people, out of harms way.

Uttarakhand is by the far the hardest hit by the monsoon, but other Indian states are feeling the effects as well.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have combined for twenty-eight deaths, with more than a hundred missing.

Some areas are seeing a decrease in the rain, but it will be awhile until the waters finally recede.

Punch Bowl Special Disappoints

Punch Bowl Social, located at 65 Broadway, in Denver is rated one of the top places to go, on many lists.

Our visit left us wondering why.

The food was mediocre, especially considering the prices, which were a bit above normal for a bowling alley/bar.

Had the prices been cheaper, the lack of quality in the food could have been a bit more acceptable.

Atmospherically it was about what you would expect for this type of establishment.

Service was actually a brilliant spot on the night. Servers and door men were pleasant and attentive.

5th Annual 1940's WWII Era Ball a Smashing Success

Saturday night was the fifth annual 1940's WWII Era Ball, at the Boulder Airport, in Colorado.

It's fairly safe to say that it was a smashing success.

With many improvements over 2012's ball, it left attendees completely sure that they would be back.

40's dress prevailed through the night, with WWII Era vehicles and aircraft present.

Swing dancers filled the dance floor to the sounds played by the great band, The Hot Tomatoes.

Bob Hope, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Andrew Sisters impersonators entertained throughout the night.

Colorado Capitol Dome's Gold Has Arrived

Colorado's capitol building will soon have it's gold finish again.

The gold has returned from Florence, Italy, where it was made in to gold leaf.

It had been mined from the Teller County Mine in Cripple Creek, and then was transported, in March, to be remade.

Sixty-five ounces of gold leaf will be used to cover the dome.

Ten more ounces will be kept in reserve, for future use.

Black Forest Fire 85% Contained

The Black Forest Fire is now listed as eighty-five percent contained.

It killed two people, burnt nearly sixteen thousand acres, destroyed five hundred and two homes, and damaged eighteen more.

All that marked it as the most destructive fire in Colorado history, especially in terms of houses lost.

Cooler weather and rains have helped more than a thousand fire fighters in battling the blaze.

Officials have finally determined where the fire started, and they began their investigation on Tuesday morning.

More and more neighborhoods are being dropped off the mandatory evacuation list as the fire becomes less of a threat.

Hopes are for full containment sometime on Thursday.

GM Recalling 200,000 Vehicles

General Motors has announced a recall of nearly two hundred thousand vehicles.

A defect could allow water to get into a circuit board on the driver's side door.

If water gains access it could cause a short, keeping the window and locks from working.

It could also cause a fire if the short resulted in sparking.

The recall affects the 2006 models of Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL; and the 2006-07 models of Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Ruick Rainier, and Saab 9-7x.

GM is in the process of notifying owners, and will be doing all work and replacements for free.
