He and another soldier were killed in combat, in Kapisa province, Afghanistan.
Pelham was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
His decorations include: Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge.
