Phone lines were knocked down near the epicenter of the quake, water pipes were broken in Samara, the road from Santa Cruz to Nicoya was buried by a landslide, and at least one bridge collapsed in Sarapiqui.
Cracks were reported at the Basilica de Los Angeles in Cartago, a hospital in Liberia took structural damage, forcing it to transfer it's patients, and several buildings under construction collapsed.
A tsunami watch was issued for the Caribbean Sea and Chile had issued one as well, but they were both cancelled.
A tsunami warning had been issued for most of central and South America, but it was all eventually cancelled without incident.
