CSU Wins Big in Bavaria

State elections took place in Bavaria, on Sunday.

They left the Christian Social Union with a big win.

CSU took forty-nine percent of the votes, giving them a majority of the state assembly.

In the national government, they are allied with Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats Union.

With Germany's national elections occurring next Sunday, CSU's win could well be a sign for the whole country.

However, Merkel's coalition still faces challenges, as one of her other partner parties, the Free Democrats struggled in the Bavarian polls, only taking three percent.
