Margvelashvili is Georgia's Next President

With two thirds of votes, Giorgi Margvelashvili has been elected as Georgia's next president.

The forty-four year old took sixty-seven percent of votes, while his next highest competitor took just over twenty.

Margvelashvili is a close ally of Prime Minister
Bidzina Ivanishvili.

He replaces Mikheil Saakashvili, who had reached his term limit.

Saakashvili and Ivanishvili are political enemies and had fought each other as Saakashvili attempted to make the country closer to western nations.

Analysts expect Margvelashvili's victory to bring about a freeze on relations with the west, while meaning that Georgia could move back into Russia's influence.
