Autonomous Cars Now Legal in California

Governor Jerry Brown signed into law SB 1298, on Wednesday, that makes autonomous cars legal

The law requires California's DMV to come up with regulations for the vehicles by January 1, 2015.

Under the law, autonomous cars would still require someone to be behind the wheel, in case of emergency.

California becomes the third state to pass such a law, following Nevada and Florida.

Google and Stanford have been testing the vehicles, made by multiple manufacturers, over the past year.
