Sgt. 1st Class Ryan J. Savard, twenty-nine, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, died October 13, 2012, in Khanabad District, Afghanistan, from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations.
According to WMUR in New Hampshire, Savard's family disclosed that he had been shot multiple times in the firefight and did not survive the medevac flight to a military medical facility.
The same news source also stated that Savard was a ten year veteran of the Army and was on his fourth combat tour. Savard's brother in law is escorting his body home.
Savard was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, N. C.
