Iran Opens New Naval Base

Iran opened a new naval base, on Sunday.

The new base is located in Bandar Lengeh, one of their ports in the Persian Gulf.

According to IRGC Navy Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi marines and missile units have been sent along with the navy.

By locating the base in Bandar Lengeh, just to the west of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran hopes to show their ability to carry out their threat to close down the Strait of Hormuz.

The placement also puts growing pressure on the situation over the Greater and Lesser Tunb Islands and Abu Musa, which are disputed with the United Arab Emirates.
