Syrian Rebels Capture Oilfield

Syrian rebels have claimed the al-Ward oilfield in Deir Ezzor, on Sunday.

It is the first time that rebel forces have conquered an oil field, during the nineteen month civil war.

According to observers, forty national troops were killed or captured during the battle for the fields.

The fields there are among Syria's best sources for oil, bringing even greater importance to their capture.

Rebel forces have continued to make small gains, slowly grinding down the forces supporting President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
