Over the weekend four hundred and seventy-nine students required hospitalization due to food poisoning from food that the university had supplied.
The offices of Ahmed el-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, were attacked and ransacked by the mob, on Tuesday.
Since Monday, the students have blocked major roads, demanding that the government investigate the matter.
The government has agreed to open an investigation, to see if criminal negligence charges should be handed down on university officials.
